Patrify

This is probably the hardest I've ever worked on any one song. It has a tune and everything, so if you guys like it, I'd like to start working on this sometime.

***

Me and my father in his ancient auto
Unraveling tales told from times long ago
Rounding the bends of the road in Hammond's Plains
Watching trees felled as the houses go up again
Me and my father in his ancient auto
The engine is loud and our voices are low

Helen was fairest among mortal women
She sailed ships and sailors and led men into sin
Helen was beautiful, young like a record
Helen was shackled, but to be unfettered

The goddess who threw the gold apple was Eris
It hit Aphrodite who took it to Paris
Love, wisdom, and Hera, they knelt down before the man
Waiting for judgement to be written in the sand
The goddess who threw the gold apple was Eris
Falling far from the tree... I don't think I can bear this

My father loved Helen, but he never got her
No armada sails out for his two daughters
Our apples are red, like all apples in Halifax
He never says anything, he is a man of facts

My sister is Artemis, virginal lovelieness
Wild moon princess whose rights are reundressed
My sister forever the smiling young virgin queen
Turns men to dogs and her loves into living dreams
She is Persephone, youthful and lovely
She'll never love Hades and she'll never love me

I am Athene who knows all the answers
And I am Cassandra forcasting disaster
I am poor Hebe, who gets blamed for everything
I am Arachne, won't see my own face again

He was Zeus in my youth and the core of my universe
Hades at twelve, when I knew all my hate by verse
Cronus, my father, my mentor, my killer
I patrify here as I wait for deliver...ance
Zeus in my youth, still the core of all sentiment
Buried knee-deep in this romantic sediment
In two years and eighteen days he will be fifty
I patrify here, please my father, deliver me
Zeus in my youth and like Zeus he was Hector's man
Loved hopeless battle, Iraq was his master plan
He scorned Achilles, the petrified woodman
He flew flags for Hector as only the brave can
In two years and eighteen days he'll still elude me
Not Hector but Prius, not fit to delude me
...He's Achilles, but only below the knees

Me and my father in his ancient auto
Unraveling tales told from times long ago
Rounding the bends of the road in Hammond's plains
Watching trees felled as the houses go up again
Me and my father in his ancient auto
I patrify here, as above, so below

...He's Achilles, but only below the knees.
